
PATRON:
Sir Arnold Wesker

Arnold Wesker, considered one of the key figures in 20th Century drama,
is the author of 42 plays, 4 volumes of short stories, 2 volumes of essays,
a book on journalism, a children's book, extensive journalism, poetry and
other assorted writings. His plays have been translated into 17 languages,
and performed worldwide. 2002 celebrated his 70th birthday and his 45th
year as a playwright. 2006 celebrates his knighthood.
Panel members include:
Dr Sarah Lawson (Chair),Oliver Baird,Johnny Dennis, Sue Dunderdale, Dr Maurice Hindle,Faye Hughes,
Ruth Gordon, Jonathan Kemp, Lucy Kerbel, Illona Linthwaite, Professor Leonee Ormond, Michael Palmer,
Bronagh Taggart, Joanna Turner,Adele Walker, Moray Watson,Kirrie Wratten.
Policy:
- An open festival for solo performers;
- Independent jury will award – ‘Festival First’, ‘Best male performer’,
‘Best female performer’, ‘Best new play’(including the cash prizes!)
- there will also be an
‘Audience's choice’ award.
Structure:
- Any solo act accepted (the performer is responsible for royalties if
required);
- Duration: from 15
to 45 min. in length;
- Any genre: from
monodrama and monologue to stand-up comedy, clowning, mime and dance;
- Number of
performances: from 1 to a maximum of 4;
- No entry
fee. Performer buys 5 tickets per performance (£5.00 per ticket for act over
20 min. and £3.00 for act up to 20 min.) for his/her own
distribution. Then the performer and API share box office 60/40 in performer's
favour.
- Performer to
provide his/her own sound/light operator.
Alternatively API can provide help with a fee of £15.00 per performance;
- Performer will have
1 hour of free rehearsal.
Publicity:
- ‘API’ and ‘Lion
and Unicorn Theatre’ will publish flyers and programmes for the Festival;
- ‘API’ and ‘Lion and Unicorn Theatre’ will do free listings for the Festival
in London newspapers;
- Performers may
distribute their own flyers and cards;
- Performers have
free entry in the programme (glossy A5 format) with the title of the show and
performer’s name. Performers may also
buy extra space in the programme: photo of performer or image of his/her show
and 50 words for £10.00.
How to submit your show:
It is very simple!
Download the Application form bellow, where you can indicate the title
of your show, number of performances, dates and times. Then bring 2 copies
of signed Agreement to the Theatre (Lion and Unicorn Theatre, 42/44 Gaisford Street,
NW52ED), collect your tickets and be ready to perform!
